hellingly redevelopment

Hellingly Redevelopment

As you have probably guessed by now, it is, sadly, very unlikely that any of the places described on this website will be around for very long in the state in which they are described.

Most of these abandoned buildings represent valuable brownfield sites to most property companies and so the spectre of redevelopment or wholesale demolition looms over each and every one of them.

Occasionally, a site will be redeveloped by an agency which has the good sense to retain the character and architectural features of the original buildings. We have always hoped that one such example is Hellingly, which whilst a lot of new building is going to take place, it is possible that a lot of the original buildings could potentially be pressed into use as apartment blocks.

Obviously such an enormous project doesn't happen overnight and as the project is earmarked to take at least 3 years to complete, we have vowed to try and visit the site every few months until the dreadful task is completed. To this end, the findings of our visits are listed in this section by the date of the visit rather than numerical order.
